SC dismissed Modi's plea against disciplinary panel

In a setback to former IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi, the Supreme Court today dismissed his plea seeking reconstitution of the BCCI-appointed disciplinary panel probing allegations of financial irregularities against him.
A bench comprising justices J M Panchal and H L Gokhale said that the three-member committee was "validly"  constituted by the BCCI and it cannot be reconstituted merely on the ground of apprehensions of biasness expressed by Modi.
"We cannot presume that member won't give fair hearing to the petitioner (Modi), "the bench said adding"committee was validly constituted".
"Mere apprehension of biasness cannot be a ground for more details....

Indian Hockey faces Insult after Glory at home

Indian Hockey has produced phenomenal players. It is believed that Adolf Hitler once broke the Hockey stick of an Indian player to check for magnets, sticks have been secretly replaced, and statues have been erected in their memory. Such was the show of the hockey players which paused the entire world. Each position in hockey has produced more than one legend that has made the country proud.
Much to the diappointment of the players, India’s national game saw insult and pittance both yesterday as the sports minister Ajay Maken offered a mere Rs 25,000 cash reward to each player, turning their glorious win in Asian Champions Trophy sour.  None of the players accepted that paltry amount saying it was not proper recognition of their achievement.
As soon as Indian players rejected Hockey India's unwelcome monetary offer, cash rewards trickled in for them today with the Sports Ministry announcing for more details....

Indian hockey team refused to accept cash reward offered by the Sports minister

In a snub to the apathy of the government towards the national sport, the Indian hockey team on Wednesday (September 14) refused to accept the meagre cash reward offered to them by the Sports minister after winning the Asian Champions Trophy.
The winning hockey national team was offered Rs 25,000 per player by the Sports Minister Ajay Maken during their felicitation ceremony.
Hockey team captain Rajpal Singh said that their feat of beating arch-rivals Pakistan in the finals of the prestigious event was not rewarded well and added that his team for more details....

Novak Djokovic clinched his maiden US Open title

Novak Djokovic shrugged off a back scare to defeat defending champion Rafael Nadal 6-4, 6-2, 6-7 (3/7), 6-1 to clinch the US Open, his third Grand Slam title of the year in an epic, brutal final.
The world number one Serb, who had already won the Australian Open before defeating Nadal at Wimbledon, racked up his 64th win yesterday against just two losses all year.
But having been just two points from the title in the 12th game of the third set, his dreams were almost shattered when he dropped the set on a tiebreaker and needed a medical time-out on a strained back muscle.
Victory represented the top-seeded, 24-year-old's fourth career Grand Slam trophy after making his breakthrough at the 2008 Australian Open.

Tennis ace Leander out of US Open mixed doubles, doubtful for Davis Cup

In what would come as a massive blow to India's chances in the Davis Cup, tennis ace Leander Paes pulled out of the US Open mixed doubles semifinals due to back spasms which also makes him doubtful for the World Group playoff tie against Japan next week.
Paes and his Russian partner Elena Vesnina, seeded seventh, gave a walkover to unseeded Americans Melanie Oudin and Jack Sock in the mixed doubles semifinals due to the Indian's back problem.

PCB coach selection committee might recommend a local

The special committee constituted by the Pakistan Cricket Board to recommend the next coach for the national team might pick a local for the main job with a foreign consultant.
The Chairman of the committee, which will meet today, Intikhab Alam told media that co far, the committee had not even decided on the method for short listing or recommending the possible candidates.

Paes-Bhupathi reaches quarterfinals of US Open

Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi advanced to the quarterfinals of the men's doubles competition of the US Open with a straight-set victory over compatriot Somdev Devvarman and his Filipino partner Treat Conrad Huey in an almost all-Indian clash here.
The fourth seeded Indian pair prevailed over Somdev and Treat 6-4, 7-5 in a pre-quarterfinal clash that lasted for an hour and 32 minutes here.
